Vacationing in Winter Harbor, Maine, is a tradition for Vanessa and Justine Sands, and that means spending time with the Carmichael boys. This summer, Vanessa is determined to channel some of her older sister’s boldness, get over her fear of the ocean, and maybe turn her friendship with Simon Carmichael into something much more. But when Justine goes cliff-diving after a big family argument, and her body washes ashore the next day, Vanessa is sure that it was more than an accident. She is more certain of this, when she discovers that her sister was keeping some big secrets and Caleb Carmichael’s gone missing. Suddenly, the entire oceanfront town is abuzz when a series of grim, water-related accidents occur, with the male victims washed ashore grinning from ear to ear. Vanessa and Simon team up to figure out if these creepy deaths have anything to do with Justine and Caleb. But will what Vanessa discovers mean the end of her summer romance, or even life as she knows it?My favorite thing about this book was the mystery aspect, I was surprised in the way everything played out. There is so much to learn in this story and the way it unfolds is phenomenal. The entire time I was trying to figure out what was happening, not in a lost or confused way, but trying to be one step ahead of the main characters. Let's just say there's a reason I'm a teacher and not a detective, because I was very unsuccessful. Tricia Rayburn's writing is extremely frustrating (in a good way) I think I was grinding my teeth more in this book than any other book I've ever read. But, like I said, in a good way.
This book sat on my shelf for a while. Last Thursday when I participated in my first ever The Time Will Come meme by Books for Company I became anxious to read it. And, so I did. In less than a day I engulfed it. I'm so glad I took a break from the books I should be reading to read one that I just wanted to read for me. Don't get me wrong, I love reading anything, but being able to read it just because I wanted to was a nice break.
The book is about Sirens, I'm not giving anything away as that is the title, I mean duh. The fun of the book is finding out what that means and what is really going on in the small town of Winter Harbor, Maine. It's a very face paced read with never ending drama, that's the best way I can think to describe Vanessa and her life, dramatic.
Growing up in Florida I love to read books about summer, I think I've mentioned that before, but I do. Summer beach homes, no matter the state, I have a soft spot for. It's this escape from reality, but in Siren a should've been incredible and memorable summer becomes memorable for the wrong reasons. What do you do, and how do you cope when you not only lose someone who was your true anchor in life but was also not the person you thought they were? This book tore me. Tricia's writing managed to take my heart out of chest and step on it. Such an incredible story with such fascinating characters, all of them.
Originally I was going to give this one 4 stars. But, I don't know why because I loved it. So 5 stars it is. If I think of why I thought of it as a 4 star read I may edit it later, but after thinking about the story and how involved I was with it I think it deserves 5 stars!
Siren in one word? Seductive. Because, that's what these ladies do best, Tricia Rayburn included, seduce! Can't wait to get my hands on Undercurrent

ReplyDeleteTricia Rayburn's Siren, is a paranormal mystery with a nice touch of romance. Are you looking for a suspenseful paranormal novel that doesn't involve vampires, werewolves, or angels? If so, then Siren might be exactly what you need. This quick summertime read follows Vanessa Sands, a teenager looking into a series of mysterious deaths off the coast of Maine.
