After a nightmarish encounter with a werewolf, seventeen-year-old Adria Dawson loses her sister, but gains the love of a mysterious young man and his legendary family. Strange and tragic things begin to happen in the small town of Hallowell, Maine: residents come down with an unexplainable ‘illness’ and some disappear. In the midst of everything, Isaac Mayfair is adamant about keeping Adria safe, even from her sister whom he has warned her to stay away from. As unspeakable secrets unfold all around Adria, impossible choices become hers to bear. Ultimately, no matter what path she takes, her life and the lives of those she loves will be in peril. As she learns about the werewolf world she also learns why her place in it will change the destinies of many.I have to first say, I am totally drooling over Isaac Mayfair. This trilogy is sure to become one of my favorite werewolf series, right up there with 13 to Life by Shannon Delany. As soon as the book begins the plot literally takes off running. It's incredibly thrilling and thoroughly addicting and it never slows down. I picked it up and didn't put it down until the very end. I am hooked and book 2 can't come fast enough!
The Mayfair Moon follows 17 year old Adria through some huge changes in her life. When she settles into Maine to live with her Aunt and Uncle her life quickly spirals out of control into supernatural territory. One in the form of Isaac Mayfair and his strange family. Much like the large family I love from Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini, J.A. has created a close knit of characters that love and respect each other. Zia, a "cousin" of Isaac's is probably my favorite character, a small pixie-like girl who holds her own.
The love story between Adria and Isaac is intense and fast (maybe a little too fast), but also endearing. I like slow building relationships, and although this one happens too quickly for me, it's still lovely. Isaac makes Adria part of his world and she learns a lot about what's really going on around them especially with her sister Alex.
The mystery and excitement in this book is enough to make me jump up in down in anticipation for the next installment. J.A. Redmerski took me by complete surprise throughout the book, I didn't know where she was taking parts and ended up stupified when events would occur. Her writing flows beautifully. I loved the added horror element in parts of the book, I'm a chicken and one part in particular scared the crap out of me (all I will say is grocery store).
It's a well rounded book that I adored and recommend to all paranormal and supernatural romance fans!
