Summer scatters three friends, ties them back together, and makes them question who they have been and who they want to be in the future. Brenna expected to soak up the knowledge of great Irish writers at her summer workshop in Dublin. But there are some things even the best books can't teach you, and a passionate new friend and an old familiar full of surprises challenge Brenna to follow her heart. By the time she's back in the States, she can't wait to throw herself back into Jake's arms and tell him exactly what he means to her. She puts the brakes on that plan when it becomes clear that Jake may not be ready to shoulder any more. He visits his family's palatial home in the mountains of New York, and is exposed to all the possibilities a life surrounded by his pampered relatives and washed in money would hold for him. But is it possible to accept so much and not change who you are? Jake has to face the reality that changing sometimes means losing things...but how much is he willing to put on the line? Saxon has been thrust into a life of drudgery and indentured service he never dreamed of after a brush with the law puts him on family-enforced probation. Who would have thought Sussex County's resident bad-ass layabout would fall head-over-heels in love with a girl, an elderly aunt, and a shot at a whole new life. The problem is, he's a Maclean to his marrow, and it's in his blood to be a selfish screw-up. Isn't it? Brenna, Jake, and Saxon spend one summer growing up, working things out, and doing their best to weather the changes that get thrown their way. But can the love and friendships of one amazing summer last through the ups and downs of the coming years?
Liz Reinhardt's Brenna Blixen series has been a favorite of mine since I first began reading Double Clutch in December. Slow Twitch, the third book in the series, was one of my highly anticipated reads of 2012, and if you've read Liz's books you know why. It's one of those stories that I read and then go off and tell everyone I know about it (even if they didn't ask); which I've been doing throughout the series, so you get the picture.

Slow Twitch is the third book in this series, so if you haven't read Double Clutch or Junk Miles, you really need to get on that (like yesterday). And, don't say "I don't read self-pub work," because I might slap you ;) Just kidding (no I'm not). Liz is one of my favorite authors and one of the greatest people I've had the privilege of meeting throughout my blogging journey. Her books are nothing short of emotional excellence. I love it!

This life-changing summer spreads my three favorite slightly dysfunctional friends apart from one another. Which is good. Right? Brenna writes the essay of her life in Ireland. Jake Kelly visits the family he never knew he had, and may want to keep it that way. And, Saxon, oh Saxon with your head in your pants ;) Saxon begins to learn what it means to work, and he works hard to alter himself for (you guessed it) a girl. But, I must say, she's pretty cool.

It's an emotionally thrilling third book in this heart palpitating contemporary romance. I do recommend it for older YA for language and sexual descriptions. This series brings the reader back to what it was life in high school, being in love and lust, and just living because it's fun.

The Brenna Blixen books make up a hot-blooded and moving series that has kept my full attention from beginning to end. The reader can't help but become drawn to and slightly obsessed with the real characters, dramatic story-lines, and pulse speeding romance. I love love love these books! Oh and I LOVE Jake Kelly :)
