A Must Read Series: Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Last month I was very excited to go to a Lauren Oliver book signing! I listened to her speak about writing, life, and everything in between and then briefly met her as she signed my copy of Delirium. The Delirium Series (Delirium, Pandemonium, and Requiem) is one of my favorites and I love sharing these books with new readers! I am a book pusher indeed!
Book Pusher and Proud!
Rather than a review of Requiem (Delirium #3) by Lauren Oliver, since it's the final book in the series, here is my take on the series as a whole, the reading order for the series, additional books to check out, and more!

THE DELIRIUM SERIES

I, like many, am drawn to books with a strong female lead. I definitely found that and more in Delirium. The best part of this series is Lena's transormation from obedient to questioning. Her life is anything but easy but she endures, grows, and goes on. It's a remarkable journey and one that the reader lives through with the characters. Delirium has fantastic world building, a page turning suspense, a heart racing romance, hooks, memorable quotes and I could go on and on and on. The first book is all about setting up the story, setting up the background, and trapping the reader in this unimaginable world where love is a disease. It's crazy but not too far out there, the panic and blind following of a culture is seen through these youths eyes. Ahh! I love it. I love every page and every word, it is brilliance in a hardback!

The series as a whole was constructed wonderfully. Lauren Oliver has succeeded in creating not one but two ultra clingy cliffhangers that left me gasping and waiting an entire year between each for resolution, but that's okay I love her anyway. This series is fast paced and will make you think about how much Love affects us day to day. It's an original adventure story with a strong plot and premise.

I won't spoil anything, but book 3 was a bit of a let down for me. It is an amazing book and the addition of Hana's POV definitely rocks the boat and adds a new perspective onto the story but overall I felt like I have one million questions still lingering. When I've discussed this with fellow Delirium lovers we pretty much all have the same complaint and that's that we want more. I know Lauren is closing this chapter of her career but we have the TV show to look forward to!

DELIRIUM TO TV
In case you haven't heard (and where have you been if you haven't?!) Fox is piloting a TV show based on Delirium! One thing that Lauren talked about during the book signing was that the show will delve deeper into these characters. So fear not good people, especially those obsessed with Alex as much as I am, we will get more! I'm anxious and excited to see this series play out on the small screen. All of this information is from IMDB. See Lauren's announcement here! And, find even more info here.
