What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem. From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets. Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.

I feel like all of my reviews lately have been 4 or 5 stars, I've been lucky I guess! Legend is absolutely no exception! Set in a futuristic United States much like the deteriorating world found in The Hunger Games, Legend is an incredible story about two very different teenagers from two very different worlds that may be more alike than they think.

When they accidentally meet both Day and June's lives are impacted. It is definitely an emotional whirlwind of events, one that I can't wait to read again.

Day is a rebel, he fights against everything that June stands for. With a huge heart and a family to help and fight for, Day wreaks havoc on the Republic with vandalism and stands up to them. Day has eluded them for a long time, they're still not sure what he looks like and they don't know who he is. June believes strongly in her country and government in the Republic and fights on their side. She's stands for everything that Day doesn't but as the truth about her world starts to unravel she will have to choose to fight for the side she's been on since birth, or the one she just learned may have a real reason to fight.

When Day and June meet what happens is unexpected and it leads them down a road neither of them could have forseen, especially the attraction neither of them can deny is there. June is a soldier, and one tough cookie. I loved her! I loved Day too! They're the kind of characters that you refer back to for years to come, I will never forget Legend and plan on recommending it to everyone!

The tragedies found in this book are unimaginable. Both Day and June undergo so much in the short years they've lived. It's a shocking and blunt book that is capable of taking your breath away. I would describe it as one big book of right versus wrong, but just when you think you know who's right and what's wrong Marie's writing may change your point of view. It's an excellent and well written adventure story that drew me in from the beginning and made me cry at the end.

I was blown away by this epic tale Marie Lu creates, sure to be a big hit for this amazing new author! Book two cannot come soon enough!

  1. This book has been on my TBR for awhile, and I'm so glad to see a positive review. I heard some sort of "eh" feelings about Enclave, which seems sort of similar!

    Great review!
